WELCOME TO AUFO - Austin, TX

Welcome to Arcade UFO, the only Japanese-style Game Center in Texas!

Our goal is to bring you the newest and most interesting arcade titles from Japan, Korea, the USA and other countries while providing a haven for the fighting game, music game and racing game communities.

At the same time, we respect the origin of arcades and always try to feature a few great classic games with our limited space.

We opened Arcade UFO to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Einstein's Arcade (R.I.P.). Our goal is to continue Austin's 20+ year tradition of community-based video arcades.

We welcome gamers of all ages! Alcoholic beverages are not served nor allowed for consumption at the arcade.

It’s cheap, and we can have a big, fun tournament!

Additional rule: You can play by yourself or with multiple people.
If you play with multiple people, you must ALWAYS play with those people.

So, you can have a 2-man team but you must play all songs together.
You can’t play some songs by yourself and some with another person’s help.

Additional rule: You must show up to play within one minute of being called.

Failure to observe either rule will result in disqualification.

===================================================

「Preliminary」

(All registrants → 11 players)
(If there are 12 or fewer players, we’ll go straight to Round 1!)

Time: 1PM to 3PM

Preselected song: Bluebird N Lv18 (Naruto OP song)

Rule: Score Attack

How to win: The 11 players with the most points will advance to Round 1.

All players points and rank will be recorded.

If the song is failed, 20,000 points will be deducted as a penalty.

—————————————————

「Second Chance Round」

(Done if 2 or more people were eliminated)

(From number of registrants who didn’t qualify → 1 player)

Time: 3PM to 3:30PM

Song: Classic 4H Lv41

Rule: Score Attack

How to win: The player with the highest score will advance to Round 1.

All players points and rank will be recorded.

===================================================

「Round 1」

(12 Players (11+1) → 6 Players)

Time: 3:30PM to 4:30PM

Song: Nadesico Rock H Lv24

Rule: Score Attack (with handicaps)

How to win: The 6 players with the highest combined score from
the preliminary and Round 1 will advance.

All players points and rank will be recorded.
If the song is failed, 20,000 points will be deducted as a penalty.

Handicaps:

The players will be divided by rank into 6 groups.
LV6, LV5, all the way down to LV1.

Everyone who advanced to Round 1 will draw Song Modifiers from
a lottery prepared by the tournament hosts. They will be
divided into 3 different “Difficulty levels”: LV3, LV2, and LV1.

You must play Round 1 with the modifiers that you drew.
Depending on your rank, you may forced to draw a maximum of
two modifiers from the lottery.

Example:
LV1 Rank Players
Must draw one modifier from the “LV1″ box.

LV3 Rank Players
Have a choice of either drawing one modifier from the “LV3″ box
or optionally one modifier from the “LV1″ and one from the “LV2″ box.
If this option is chosen, you must draw from the “LV2″ box first.

LV6 Rank Players
Must draw two modifiers from the “LV3″ box.

[Notice] If you draw the same modifier twice in a row, you must
put the second modifier back and select a different one from the same box.
The first modifier you drew will remain in effect.

===================================================

「Semifinals」

(6 players → 3 players)

Time: 4:30PM to 5:30PM

Song: Makina H Lv30

Rule: Score Attack (with handicaps)

How to win: The players with the Top 3 overall scores
from all previous rounds PLUS the Semifinal round advance.

All players points and rank will be recorded.
If the song is failed, 20,000 points will be deducted as a penalty.

Handicap:

The 6 players will be separated individually into the 6 groups
just as in Round 1. Those 6 individuals will draw Song Modifiers
in the same manner as in Round 1.

===================================================

「Finals」

(3 Players determine 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place)

Time: 5:30PM to 6:00PM

Songs: Battle Without Honor or Humanity EX Lv35
Hokuto no Ken OP EX Lv36
Crossover EX Lv36

Rule: Score Attack

How to win: The best top scorer of these 3 songs will win.

Previous scores will be discarded for the final round.

If the song is failed, 20,000 points will be deducted as a penalty.

  • Thank you, Ryan.

    >How to win: The players with the Top 3 overall scores
    >from all previous rounds PLUS the Semifinal round advance.

    Could you add below to that comment?
    # except “Second chance round”
    so, in this case,
    “all previous rounds” = ‘Preliminary’+'Round 1′

    If you don’t add it, players who get second chance round will have huge advantage…
    That will be unfair.

    > Texas Pepper
    Someone asked me if I’m Texas Pepper.
    But, I know his name only, Sorry.
    I have NEVER met him.
    I think he is cool.
    It’s so hard to play that game with that mask.
    If I were him, I couldn’t play like that movie.

  • About handicaps: I posted

    http://s928.photobucket.com/albums/ad127/ikkimpm/?action=view&current=Handicaps_in_Popn_tornament.png

    LV6 = 2(LV3)
    LV5 = 1(LV3) + 1(LV2) : LV3 first
    LV4 = 1(LV3) + 1(LV1) : LV3 first
    or 2(LV2)
    LV3 = 1(LV2) + 1(LV1) : LV2 first
    or 1(LV3)
    LV2 = 2(LV1) or 1(LV2)
    LV1 = 1(LV1)

    Someone said “too easy” in one of the youtube movies Ryan up-ed. Exactly, that chart is too easy for some serious players.
    But, easy chart is not the focus.
    Handicap is one of the keys of this tornament.

    Comment by IKKI — July 9, 2010 @ 6:12 pm

  • Ah, I forgot to tell players one thing.

    We use “超(chou, ‘super’ in English) challenge mode” in this tornament. (except ‘preliminary’)

    # we use “(normal) challenge mode” in ‘preliminary’ ONLY.

    You can play “super challenge mode” by this following way.

    1. Select “challenge mode”.
    2. Press 2 white buttons before you press a red button.

    Comment by IKKI — July 14, 2010 @ 8:20 pm

  • I’ll tell you one more thing.

    The player with lower score has the earlier turn.

    For example: in Round 1,
    the 12th-place player in preliminary must play First.
    And then, 11th must play second, and, 10th, 9th, … , 2nd, 1st.
