WELCOME TO AUFO - Austin, TX

Welcome to Arcade UFO, the only Japanese-style Game Center in Texas!

Our goal is to bring you the newest and most interesting arcade titles from Japan, Korea, the USA and other countries while providing a haven for the fighting game, music game and racing game communities.

At the same time, we respect the origin of arcades and always try to feature a few great classic games with our limited space.

We opened Arcade UFO to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Einstein's Arcade (R.I.P.). Our goal is to continue Austin's 20+ year tradition of community-based video arcades.

We welcome gamers of all ages! Alcoholic beverages are not served nor allowed for consumption at the arcade.

zapataur

Ladies and gentlemen,

We are currently fighting an epic battle. That battle is to play as much Zapataur online as possible until Tuesday, October 6th, 2009.

Arcade UFO has held a strong lead thus far throughout the competition, but the fans of Starbase Arcade in Northern California are worthy opponents.

I wanted to write this post first of all to dearly thank everyone that has dedicated hours of their free time to playing Zapataur and donating their points to Arcade UFO. Your efforts are immensely appreciated, and I can’t give enough thanks for that.

Here is a quick guide on how you can help Arcade UFO win a $25,000 prize which will immediately be re-invested to make the best arcade in the U.S. even better. Let’s show ‘em what Austin is made of!

1) The points you earn in Zapataur need to be donated to Arcade UFO. You only need to enter your name, birthday, E-Mail address and password. Takes less than one minute, and you don’t have to wait for a confirmation E-Mail. If you can’t register, & are 13 or older, you can use this login to donate points:

login: defstar@alloymail.com
password: aufo

2) When the game is finished, click or press (D) to donate points, select “Arcade UFO”, type in the two security words and click OK. Don’t push (P) to play again–your points will be lost forever!

And that’s it! Whether it’s an hour or just 5 minutes you have to spare, we are extremely grateful for every bit you can help. Your efforts will not go unnoticed!

Tips:

- You can pause with the (H) key (triggers the help menu). Type (X) to resume.

- Marsupataur (#4) is by far the easiest character to use. The (S) key special attack, Giant Boxing Glove, can be used to absorb projectiles and also destroys several enemies at once. Try to use the (S) attack just enough so that your blue special attack bar never fully drains. This will enable you to get very far without getting hit. Also, make sure to catch the green ruby in every stage to refill much needed health!

Thanks again everyone, and if you’re in Austin with us, you can expect a giant bash at Arcade UFO on the week of October 6th if we manage to succeed!

  • StarBase Arcade had the lead this morning. I nearly shit my pants. I’ve been yammering about this to all of my friends and I mentioned it at the UT Anime Club meeting. Everyone thinks I’m a fanatic, which I probably am. I don’t care, we need to win this for you guys.

    You were worthy opponents.

  • I think we did it. I just played my final game, and it wouldn’t let me donate any points. We had a lead of at least 20 million at the time, so I think we did it. I’ll wait for the announcement just to make sure.

Obviously I’m paranoid as hell so I’m taking nothing for granted.

StarBase, you guys had some incredible tenacity. This was still neck-and-neck as of noon today. No matter who wins, it’s pretty clear you worked your asses off, and I’m pretty damn impressed.
