WELCOME TO AUFO - Austin, TX

Welcome to Arcade UFO, the only Japanese-style Game Center in Texas!

Our goal is to bring you the newest and most interesting arcade titles from Japan, Korea, the USA and other countries while providing a haven for the fighting game, music game and racing game communities.

At the same time, we respect the origin of arcades and always try to feature a few great classic games with our limited space.

We opened Arcade UFO to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Einstein's Arcade (R.I.P.). Our goal is to continue Austin's 20+ year tradition of community-based video arcades.

We welcome gamers of all ages! Alcoholic beverages are not served nor allowed for consumption at the arcade.

Wow!!!

So as you hopefully know by now, we are officially open! Our grand opening was a huge success and we were astonished to see the huge crowd gathered on Friday. This deserves a huge “Thank you!” both to everybody who helped this place manifest, and more importantly, to the arcade lovers that came from all over Texas just to visit us.

Pictures

This is one favor I’d like to ask of all of you: a lot of fantastic pictures and videos were taken Friday and Saturday; lots of them with real, professional cameras and not our dinky point-and-shooter. We’d like to use these pictures to update our site/use for fliers and whatnot, so if there’s anything you can share, please send a copy over to info(at)arcadeufo.com.

Issues and Suggestions

We opened with more out-of-order machines than we’d have liked, but think that it was worth it to give everyone a chance to play Street Fighter 4 while it’s brand-spankin’-new. Other titles that are under repair and will be ready soon are:

Arcana Heart 2 (ETA: 2 weeks)

DoDonPachi (ETA: 2 weeks)

Time Crisis 4 (ETA: 1 week)

In the Groove 2 was also experiencing some issues, but that -should- be taken care of now. We worked on it Saturday night a bit, and it was working perfectly up until close. We’ll keep you updated on the status here!

Once these titles are taken care of, we should be at 100% functionality. We’re also working on installing pad ports for both Tekken 6 and Street Fighter 4, which will allow you to use your own controller from home for those of you who haven’t yet mastered the Japanese ball-top joysticks.

There have been a lot of awesome suggestions already, and we’re aiming to keep aUFO constantly improving. Meanwhile, if there’s anything you think we missed, send a shout-out to info(at)arcadeufo.com and feel free to elaborate.

Feels good to say “see you at the arcade” again, doesn’t it?

Parking

Sup,

Allow us to apologize in advance for this if you haven’t made it by yet: parking here kind of sucks, especially when a lot of people make it out. We know.

3 cars can fit on the right side of the arcade building, and about 5 cars on the left. Once that’s full, the next closest thing will be parallel parking on “Helms St” which is right behind Fricano’s Deli at the edge of the shopping center. Finally, after 6PM you can park parallel along Speedway, and after 7PM, along 31st Street. Check the posted signs to confirm!

If you are in front of the strip mall with the hookah shop/convenience store/deli, or in the apartment complex across the street, you’re out of our jurisdiction. The other businesses and residents around us need the few parking spots they have, so please don’t park there–and if you’re not sure, ask an attendant! :) They will tow if necessary and we don’t want it happening to anybody that just wants to stop by and play a few games.

Thanks! <(^_^)>

Good news!

So the super-speedy shippers got our repaired Tekken 6 back to us right in the nick of time.  The machine is now set up and ready for play :)

Opening Night

A lot of folks have been asking us if we have anything cool or special planned for opening night this Friday.

It sounds like a lot of people are going to stop by, and that’s great!  And because there’s going to be so many of you, and so few of us, we are going to focus on keeping your experience smooth:  making sure everything works, helping everyone with any questions, and keeping the Street Fighter 4 lines running smoothly.

We do have some awesome stuff planned; meet-ups, tournaments, events, and more.  Like this one:

http://www.originalalamo.com/Show.aspx?id=5644

For this weekend, though, we just want to make sure you have a seamless, real arcade experience.  Hopefully, we’ll actually have time to get a few games in with everyone!

While we are expecting a big crowd, we do have a front patio explicitly for socializing with fellow gamers.  So if you’re not feeling the inside, just chill outside with us and shoot the proverbial shit.

So, our brand-new Time Crisis 4 machine had a monitor that wasn’t turning on.  No big deal, we thought, it’s still under warranty so we’ll have a technician come for free and repair it, and it’ll be ready for opening.

Unfortunately not the case!

The technician did finally come today, but determined that the monitor was completely broken so Time Crisis 4 is going to be a big, empty space this weekend.  This makes me quite sad, but we’ll be treading on nonetheless.  So, to sum it up, here’s the current list of issues:

- Time Crisis 4 : out of order

- Arcana Heart 2 : out of order

- Tekken 6 : out of order (have a tracking number now, small chance it’ll be ready sometime this weekend)

- DoDonPachi : no sound

All other games listed at http://www.arcadeufo.com/arcade.php will actually be there (and working).  We’ll be editing the Web page to reflect these issues as soon as there’s a spare moment to do so!

Arcana Heartless and Tekken 6 issues

What’s up?!

First of all, we lost all of the blog’s images while getting transferred to our new layout.  Sorry about that!  I hope everyone likes the new layout; it certainly beats the default WordPress theme.

So we’re still on for this Friday, August 29th.  It seems like a lot of people are making plans to check us out for opening weekend, and we couldn’t be more excited.  A little nervous, even!

Unfortunately, we ran into a couple of problems during our stress tests:  both Arcana Heart 2 and Tekken 6 completely broke down.  We had to send them back to their respective manufacturers for repair in Japan, and our replacement units might not arrive in time for the opening.  I really wanted to wait until every game was 100% working, but I’d rather keep our promise to open on time.  On the plus side, Street Fighter 4 is working great and all 4 cabinets of it will be ready to go!

DoDonPachi doesn’t have sound right now, so that’s the next-highest priority.  The audio amplifier and speakers in the cabinet completely blew out, which is new territory for us, but we’ll figure it out and get it fixed ASAP.

Thanks for bearing with us and we hope to see everyone this weekend!
